Professional boundaries
Clarity about what a protection engagement is, and what it is not.

Know the purpose
A protection discussion should focus on a clearly described requirement. It is not a substitute for emergency response, medical care or legal advice. If someone is in immediate danger, contact emergency services.
Agree responsibilities
The principal and the service provider should understand the intended scope, the decision-making relationship and the limits of the assignment. These are matters for direct agreement rather than assumptions based on website language.
Protect the conversation
Keep sensitive details out of initial forms and avoid sharing another person’s information without a clear reason. Use the first conversation to establish how to proceed appropriately.
